Sell Your iMac for Cash - We Collect

iMac on a desk, ready to be packed up and sent to SellMacBooks for a cash quote

The quick answer

Sell your iMac without wrestling it to a Post Office: we arrange a free, fully-insured courier collection from your door anywhere in the UK. Get a fixed quote by email within 2 working hours, hand the boxed iMac to the courier, and we pay by bank transfer within 24 hours of it passing inspection, working or broken.

Desktops are the Macs people sit on longest, which is why so many UK homes still have a perfectly valuable iMac gathering dust. A current 24-inch M4 fetches around £850 with us; an M1 still holds around £450. Even faulty machines hold real value because the display panel alone is worth money. Your quote is locked for 14 days.

  • Free insured shipping
  • Paid within 24h of inspection
  • Data wiped to NIST standards
  • Free returns if you decline

Find your exact model

Sell by generation

Each generation has its own page with model-specific prices and FAQs. Jump straight to yours.

How does courier collection work for an iMac?

Once you accept your quote, we book a courier to your address on a day you choose - DPD or similar, fully tracked and insured at our expense. You just need the iMac boxed: the original box is ideal, but any sturdy box with generous padding works fine (our desktop packaging guide shows you exactly how in ten minutes, using things you already have at home).

From the moment the courier takes it, the risk is ours - that's the point of us paying for insured shipping rather than leaving it to you. The iMac reaches us next working day from most of the UK, we inspect it on arrival, and your bank transfer goes out within 24 hours of it passing. If we ever revise a quote and you decline, the courier brings it back to your door, free.

What decides your iMac's value

Generation is the biggest lever. The current 24-inch iMac M4 holds value best, with the M3 and the 2021 M1 behind it. We buy Apple Silicon iMacs only, so the 21.5-inch and 27-inch Intel models sit outside our window - they still have a used market, but not with us. After that it's memory, storage and screen condition. A cracked or marked display is the one fault that moves an iMac quote a lot, so mention any screen damage honestly in the form and you'll still get a fair, fixed price rather than a nasty surprise on arrival.

Don't write off an older Apple Silicon machine: a 2021 24-inch M1 is still worth around £450 in good condition, and we quote it the same way, instantly, with the price locked for 14 days. Background on the product line: iMac on Wikipedia. If yours won't switch on at all, that's fine too; see our broken Mac page. Before the courier comes, sign out of iCloud, turn off Find My and erase the drive - the how-it-works guide covers it - and every iMac is re-wiped to NIST 800-88 standards when it reaches us.

Before you quote

How condition affects your offer

Functional condition

Fully working machines quote highest. Faulty boards, cracked screens, liquid damage or no-power still sell if the Mac is Apple Silicon. Describe the fault honestly on the form.

Cosmetic condition

Like new, Good and Fair grades are published on our grading page. Light wear rarely moves a quote much; heavy dents or missing keys do.

Good to know

Your questions, answered

Everything sellers ask us before posting their Mac - answered straight.

How do I post an iMac? It's huge.

You don't have to. For iMacs and other desktops we arrange a free, fully insured courier collection from your door - you just need it boxed. No original box? Our packaging guide shows you how to make any large box safe with household padding. The courier does the rest.

How much is my iMac worth?

In 2026, a 24-inch M1 iMac in good condition fetches around £450 (£200 faulty), an M3 around £680 and the current M4 around £850. We buy Apple Silicon iMacs only, so the 21.5-inch and 27-inch Intel models sit outside our window. Fill in the quote form for a fixed price within 2 working hours.

Do you buy iMacs that won't turn on?

Yes. A dead iMac still contains a valuable display panel, logic board and storage, so it's worth real money - typically 40-50% of working value. You get an instant online quote like any other device; just select 'Faulty/broken' and tell us what it's doing (or not doing).

Should I include the keyboard and mouse?

If you have the original Apple Magic Keyboard and Mouse, yes - they add £20-£40 to what we pay, more for Touch ID keyboards. But they're optional: your iMac quote stands without them. Mention what you're including in the quote form message box so your price is exact.

How is a big desktop insured in transit?

Fully, at our expense and our risk. The courier collection we book covers your iMac to its full quoted value from your doorstep to our workshop. If the worst happened in transit, you'd still be paid - that's the point of us carrying the transit risk instead of you.

About the buyer

What is SellMacBooks?

SellMacBooks is a UK buy-back service for Apple computers only. We have no shops and no drop-in counter: every sale runs by post, anywhere in the country. You describe your Mac, we email a fixed quote within 2 working hours, you post it free on a fully insured label, and payment leaves by bank transfer within 24 hours of the machine passing inspection.

We buy Apple Silicon Macs only - M1-generation and newer (2020 onward), working or broken. We do not buy Intel Macs. Macs are the only thing we handle, so the person pricing yours knows what the model is worth this month rather than reading it off a generic gadget table. See how it works or read about us.

The inspection

Everything we check before quoting an iMac

Your quote is built from what you tell us, and the bench check on arrival exists to confirm that description rather than renegotiate it. Here is exactly what we look at:

  • Power-on and a clean boot to the desktop
  • Screen: cracks, dead pixels, backlight and marks
  • Chassis and cosmetics: dents, deep scratches, worn palm rests
  • Battery health percentage and cycle count
  • Keyboard, trackpad, speakers and every port
  • Storage size, memory and chip against the spec you quoted
  • Find My / Activation Lock signed out (we cannot buy a locked Mac)
  • Accessories included, such as the original charger

The quoted price is fixed and locked for 14 days. If the machine differs from your description, you get photos and a plain explanation with a revised offer - accept it, or decline and we return the Mac free and insured. Full detail on the three grades is on our grading page.

Versus the alternatives

How we compare

Selling a Mac in the UK usually comes down to a big trade-in site, a marketplace listing, or a specialist buyer like us. The differences that cost sellers money are these:

  • Big trade-in sites can keep you waiting days after delivery. We pay within 24 hours of your Mac passing inspection.
  • eBay takes roughly 14% in fees, plus postage, plus return and scam risk. Our quote is the amount that lands in your bank.
  • Some buyers put the courier damage risk on you in their small print. Our label is insured at our expense, both ways.
  • Return fees for declining a revised offer are common in this market. Ours are always free, both ways, whatever inspection finds.
  • Most quotes quietly expire or float with the market. Yours is locked for 14 days.

The longer version, option by option, is in our guide to the best place to sell a MacBook in the UK and our MacBook trade-in comparison.

Why sellers choose us

Guarantees you can check, not vague promises

Buyback trust is process, not slogans. These four commitments sit in every quote email and on our how it works page.

  • Quote locked 14 days

The emailed price stands while you wipe and pack. No silent expiry.

  • Paid within 24 hours

Bank transfer after inspection matches what we quoted, if your description was accurate.

  • Free insured post

We email the label. Transit risk sits with us, not you.

  • Free returns if you decline

If inspection revises the offer and you say no, the Mac comes home free and insured.

Independent reviews are next: once our Trustpilot profile is live we will embed it here and add the URL to our Organisation schema. Until then we do not invent star ratings.
