Sell by generation

Why does the Mac mini hold its value?
It's the cheapest way into macOS, so used minis sell almost instantly - that constant demand keeps prices firm generation after generation. We buy the Apple Silicon minis - M1 through M6 - and they lose value slower than almost any other small-form computer on the market.
You don't need the monitor, keyboard or mouse - we buy the computer alone. Box it with decent padding (our packing guide covers the technique), drop it at the Post Office with our label, and the money is in your account within 24 hours of it passing inspection. Got a Mac Studio instead? See our dedicated Mac Studio page. Faulty unit? We quote those instantly too - see our broken Mac page.
What your Mac mini is actually worth
Two things move a mini's price: the chip and the memory. Because RAM is soldered on Apple Silicon and can't be upgraded later, a 16GB or 24GB M2 or M4 mini is worth noticeably more than the 8GB base model - buyers pay a premium for the configuration they can't change. Storage matters less but still counts, and the Pro-chip minis (M5 Pro, M4 Pro) sit in their own tier because they're bought as compact workstations. See our M6 , M5 Pro, and M4 pages for generation-specific figures, plus the M6 worth guide. When you fill in the quote form, give the exact chip, memory and SSD size; the more precisely you describe it, the tighter and higher the quote.
Condition barely dents a mini because there's no screen or battery to wear out - a scuffed case loses almost nothing, and even a unit that won't boot keeps real parts value. Before you post it, sign out of iCloud, turn off Find My and erase the drive (our how-it-works guide covers it in a minute), and we wipe every machine again to NIST 800-88 standards on arrival. Prefer to compare cash against Apple's offer first? Our trade-in comparison shows why a fixed cash quote almost always beats store credit.
Before you quote
How condition affects your offer
Functional condition
Fully working machines quote highest. Faulty boards, cracked screens, liquid damage or no-power still sell if the Mac is Apple Silicon. Describe the fault honestly on the form.
Cosmetic condition
Like new, Good and Fair grades are published on our grading page. Light wear rarely moves a quote much; heavy dents or missing keys do.
Good to know
Your questions, answered
Everything sellers ask us before posting their Mac - answered straight.
How much is a Mac mini worth?
In 2026, a Mac mini M2 in good condition typically fetches around £280, an M4 around £380, and the M1 around £180. Faulty minis still sell for £80-£170. They're small, cheap to post and hold value well - fill in the quote form for your fixed price.
Can I post a Mac mini in a normal box?
Yes - the mini is the easiest Mac to sell by post. Any small sturdy box with bubble wrap works, and it goes over any Post Office counter with our free insured label. Keep the padding generous around the corners and it will arrive exactly as it left.
Do I need to include a monitor, keyboard or cables?
No - just the computer itself; the mini's power cable is handy but not essential. We don't buy third-party monitors or peripherals, so keep them for your next setup or sell them separately. Your quote is for the Mac alone.
Do you buy Intel Mac minis?
No. We buy Apple Silicon Macs only, M1-generation and newer, so the 2020 M1 mini - around £180 in good condition - is the oldest mini we quote. Intel minis from 2014 or 2018 sit outside our window; our Intel MacBook page explains what the used market pays for Intel Macs.
Is the Mac mini M4 worth selling yet?
Yes if you are upgrading. The M4 mini is one generation behind the current M6 / M5 Pro line and still fetches around £380 with us in 2026. Mac values fall at each chip launch, so selling now beats waiting for another refresh.
About the buyer
What is SellMacBooks?
SellMacBooks is a UK buy-back service for Apple computers only. We have no shops and no drop-in counter: every sale runs by post, anywhere in the country. You describe your Mac, we email a fixed quote within 2 working hours, you post it free on a fully insured label, and payment leaves by bank transfer within 24 hours of the machine passing inspection.
We buy Apple Silicon Macs only - M1-generation and newer (2020 onward), working or broken. We do not buy Intel Macs. Macs are the only thing we handle, so the person pricing yours knows what the model is worth this month rather than reading it off a generic gadget table. See how it works or read about us.
The inspection
Everything we check before quoting a Mac mini
Your quote is built from what you tell us, and the bench check on arrival exists to confirm that description rather than renegotiate it. Here is exactly what we look at:
- Power-on and a clean boot to the desktop
- Screen: cracks, dead pixels, backlight and marks
- Chassis and cosmetics: dents, deep scratches, worn palm rests
- Battery health percentage and cycle count
- Keyboard, trackpad, speakers and every port
- Storage size, memory and chip against the spec you quoted
- Find My / Activation Lock signed out (we cannot buy a locked Mac)
- Accessories included, such as the original charger
The quoted price is fixed and locked for 14 days. If the machine differs from your description, you get photos and a plain explanation with a revised offer - accept it, or decline and we return the Mac free and insured. Full detail on the three grades is on our grading page.
Versus the alternatives
How we compare
Selling a Mac in the UK usually comes down to a big trade-in site, a marketplace listing, or a specialist buyer like us. The differences that cost sellers money are these:
- Big trade-in sites can keep you waiting days after delivery. We pay within 24 hours of your Mac passing inspection.
- eBay takes roughly 14% in fees, plus postage, plus return and scam risk. Our quote is the amount that lands in your bank.
- Some buyers put the courier damage risk on you in their small print. Our label is insured at our expense, both ways.
- Return fees for declining a revised offer are common in this market. Ours are always free, both ways, whatever inspection finds.
- Most quotes quietly expire or float with the market. Yours is locked for 14 days.
The longer version, option by option, is in our guide to the best place to sell a MacBook in the UK and our MacBook trade-in comparison.
