Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 8 July 2026
These terms and conditions apply when you sell a MacBook, Mac or other Apple device to us through sellmacbooks.co.uk. By requesting a quote and sending us your device, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully — they set out how the process works, when we pay you, and what happens if we need to revise our offer.
1. Who we are
SellMacBooks operates this website and buyback service. You can contact us at info@sellmacbooks.co.uk. We buy used MacBooks and Macs from customers across the UK by post. In every transaction under these terms, we are the buyer and you are the seller.
2. How the quote process works
When you complete our quote form, we will email you a quote within 2 working hours, 7 days a week. The quote is based entirely on the information you give us about your device — its model, specification, condition and any faults. A quote is an offer to buy your device at the stated price, subject to the device matching your description when we inspect it. No contract of sale is formed until your device has passed inspection and we confirm the final price.
3. 14-day quote lock
Every quote is locked for 14 days from the date it is emailed to you. If we receive your device within that period, the quoted price is honoured (subject to inspection). If your device arrives after the quote has expired, we will issue a new quote at the current market price, which you are free to accept or decline before anything else happens.
4. Your promises about the device
By sending us a device, you warrant (that is, you legally promise) that:
- the device is your own property, or you have the owner's express authority to sell it;
- the device is not stolen, counterfeit, or subject to any finance agreement, lease, lien or other third-party claim;
- the device is not iCloud-locked — you have signed out of iCloud, disabled Find My and removed any Activation Lock before posting it;
- the description you gave us in the quote form is accurate to the best of your knowledge; and
- you are at least 18 years old and a UK resident.
We check every device against industry databases. If a device is reported lost or stolen, we are required to withhold it and may pass it, together with your details, to the police. No payment will be made for such devices.
5. Shipping and insurance
Once you accept a quote, we email you a free, fully insured, prepaid shipping label. Your device is insured by us in transit from the moment you post it using our label, provided you follow the packing guidance we send you. If a device sent with our label is lost or damaged in transit, we will pay you the quoted price. If you choose to send your device by any other method, it travels at your own risk and we accept no liability for loss or damage before it reaches us.
6. Inspection and revised quotes
When your device arrives, our technicians inspect it against the description you provided. If everything matches, your quote is confirmed and we proceed to payment. If the device differs from your description — for example, undisclosed damage, a different specification, or a fault we weren't told about — we will email you a revised quote explaining exactly what we found and why the price has changed. You are never obliged to accept a revised quote.
7. Free returns if you decline
If you decline a revised quote, we will return your device to you free of charge by insured post, in the same condition we received it. There is no fee, deduction or obligation of any kind for declining. If we do not hear from you within 14 days of sending a revised quote, we will send a reminder; if we still receive no response within a further 14 days, we may treat the revised quote as accepted and pay you the revised amount.
8. Payment
We pay by bank transfer to the UK bank account you nominate, within 24 hours of your device passing inspection (or of your acceptance of a revised quote). Ownership of the device transfers to us when payment is sent. Please double-check the bank details you give us — we cannot recover payments sent to an incorrectly supplied account.
9. Data erasure
All data remaining on devices we purchase is permanently erased in line with the NIST Special Publication 800-88 media sanitisation guidelines before the device is resold or recycled. We do not access, copy or keep any of your files. That said, you remain responsible for backing up anything you want to keep and for signing out of your accounts before posting the device — once erasure has taken place, data cannot be recovered.
10. Your consumer rights — a plain-English note
Most consumer protection law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the usual 14-day distance selling cancellation right, is written for situations where a business sells goods or services to a consumer. Here the roles are reversed: you are selling your device to us. That means the standard distance selling cancellation rules do not apply to this transaction in the usual way.
In practice, our own process gives you equivalent or better flexibility: you can withdraw at any point before your device passes inspection, you can decline any revised quote, and we return your device free of charge if you do. Nothing in these terms affects any statutory rights you do have as a consumer, and nothing in these terms excludes anything that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under English law. Subject to that:
- our total liability to you in connection with any transaction is limited to the quoted (or revised and accepted) price of your device;
- we are not liable for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the transaction began, or for any loss of data you failed to back up before sending your device; and
- we are not liable for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as courier disruption, though we will keep you informed and complete the transaction as soon as we can.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page when you request your quote is the version that applies to your transaction. Significant changes will be flagged with an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of them, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also be entitled to bring proceedings in your local courts. If something goes wrong, please contact us first at info@sellmacbooks.co.uk — we aim to resolve every issue directly and quickly.
