Intel MacBook: What It's Worth in 2026 and Where to Sell It

Intel MacBook - what it is worth in the UK in 2026 and where to sell it
Intel MacBook: 2026 UK value guide - we buy Apple Silicon only

The quick answer

We buy Apple Silicon Macs only - M1-generation and newer (2020 onward), working or broken. We do not buy Intel Macs. An Intel MacBook (2015-2020) typically sells for £40-£380 on the UK second-hand market in 2026 (indicative), 2015 Airs to the 16-inch 2019 Pro. Upgraded to an Apple Silicon Mac? We buy that.

This page is an honest value guide, not a quote. Apple stopped selling Intel Macs in 2020 and macOS support for them is ending, so they sit outside our buying window - we buy Apple Silicon only, M1-generation and newer. There is still a real second-hand market today, and this guide tells you what to expect from it and how to sell without being lowballed.

What an Intel MacBook is worth in 2026 (indicative market values)

On the UK second-hand market in 2026, a 16-inch 2019 MacBook Pro in good condition typically sells for £320-£380, a 2020 13-inch Pro £180-£260, 2018-2019 13-inch and 15-inch Pros £150-£250, and 2016-2017 Pros £100-£150. Intel MacBook Airs run lower: £90-£150 for the 2018-2020 Retina models and £40-£80 for 2015-2017 units. Faulty examples typically fetch around 40% of those figures. All figures are indicative.

Unlike Apple Silicon Macs, there is no value plateau here. Each yearly macOS release drops more Intel models from the support list, buyers know it, and prices are eroding at roughly 3-5% a month. A 16-inch 2019 worth about £350 today is on track for around £250 by early 2027 - so if the machine is idle, sooner beats later.

What moves the price on an Intel MacBook

Year and screen size matter most: the 16-inch 2019 and four-port 2020 13-inch Pros lead, then everything steps down by year. Processor tier, 32GB RAM and large SSDs add £20-£60, not hundreds - the market pays for the platform now, not the configuration.

Condition is the other big lever. A 2019-or-earlier machine is on a six-year-old battery; once it swells or drops below usable capacity the machine moves into the faulty bracket, and a battery replacement rarely pays for itself. Butterfly-keyboard faults (2015-2019) are common and priced in by most buyers. Activation Lock left on makes any Mac unsellable to a legitimate buyer, so sign out of iCloud first.

Your options for selling an Intel MacBook

Apple Trade In: only store credit, and for most pre-2018 Intel machines Apple offers £0 and free recycling; late Intel Pros attract modest credit. eBay or private sale: the highest headline price, but fees of around 13%, slow interest, aggressive haggling and a real scam risk - our guide to avoiding scams when selling a MacBook online (linked below) covers the traps. High-street chains such as CeX: instant, but well below market.

Specialist buyback services that still take Intel machines: look for a fixed quote in writing, a locked price period, free insured postage where the buyer carries transit risk, and free returns if an offer is revised. For a pre-2013 Air that will not power on, the realistic recovery is under £15 and free WEEE recycling is a perfectly rational choice - just remove your data first.

Upgraded to an Apple Silicon Mac? Sell that one to us

If the Intel machine was replaced by an M1, M2, M3, M4 or M5 MacBook Pro or Air that is now idle, that is exactly the machine we buy: fixed quote by email within 2 working hours, free insured postage from anywhere in the UK, and payment by bank transfer within 24 hours of passing inspection. Quotes are locked for 14 days, and every Mac we buy is wiped to NIST 800-88 standards. Use the quote form on this page, or head back to the main MacBook Pro or MacBook Air page for indicative prices by generation.

Good to know

Intel MacBook - FAQs

Everything sellers ask us before posting their Mac - answered straight.

How much is an Intel MacBook worth in 2026?

Indicatively, on the UK second-hand market: a 16-inch 2019 MacBook Pro £320-£380, 2018-2020 13-inch Pros £150-£260, the 2018-2020 Intel Air £90-£150, and 2015-2017 models £40-£150. Faulty units fetch roughly 40% of those figures. These are market values, not a quote from us - we buy Apple Silicon Macs only, M1-generation and newer.

Why don't you buy Intel Macs?

We buy Apple Silicon Macs only - M1-generation and newer, from 2020 onward. Intel Macs are losing macOS support, resale demand is shrinking every month, and repairs on out-of-support machines rarely pay for themselves, so we cannot offer a fair fixed price on them. This page explains what they are worth and where to sell them instead.

Should I sell my Intel Mac now or keep waiting?

Now, if it is idle. Intel Macs are the one category where waiting always loses: macOS support is winding down, each Apple release cuts more models from the list, and values are eroding at roughly 3-5% a month. There is no plateau ahead - a machine worth £350 today is on track for around £250 in a year.

Does Apple give you anything for an old Intel MacBook?

For most pre-2018 models, no - Apple Trade In values them at £0 and offers free recycling only. Late Intel machines such as the 16-inch 2019 Pro attract modest gift-card credit. Independent buyers and private sales still pay cash for working Intel Macs because the display, board and chassis retain resale and parts value.

About the buyer

What is SellMacBooks?

SellMacBooks is a UK buy-back service for Apple computers only. We have no shops and no drop-in counter: every sale runs by post, anywhere in the country. You describe your Mac, we email a fixed quote within 2 working hours, you post it free on a fully insured label, and payment leaves by bank transfer within 24 hours of the machine passing inspection.

We buy Apple Silicon Macs only - M1-generation and newer (2020 onward), working or broken. We do not buy Intel Macs. Macs are the only thing we handle, so the person pricing yours knows what the model is worth this month rather than reading it off a generic gadget table. See how it works or read about us.

The inspection

Everything we check before quoting a Mac

Your quote is built from what you tell us, and the bench check on arrival exists to confirm that description rather than renegotiate it. Here is exactly what we look at:

  • Power-on and a clean boot to the desktop
  • Screen: cracks, dead pixels, backlight and marks
  • Chassis and cosmetics: dents, deep scratches, worn palm rests
  • Battery health percentage and cycle count
  • Keyboard, trackpad, speakers and every port
  • Storage size, memory and chip against the spec you quoted
  • Find My / Activation Lock signed out (we cannot buy a locked Mac)
  • Accessories included, such as the original charger

The quoted price is fixed and locked for 14 days. If the machine differs from your description, you get photos and a plain explanation with a revised offer - accept it, or decline and we return the Mac free and insured. Full detail on the three grades is on our grading page.

Versus the alternatives

How we compare

Selling a Mac in the UK usually comes down to a big trade-in site, a marketplace listing, or a specialist buyer like us. The differences that cost sellers money are these:

  • Big trade-in sites can keep you waiting days after delivery. We pay within 24 hours of your Mac passing inspection.
  • eBay takes roughly 14% in fees, plus postage, plus return and scam risk. Our quote is the amount that lands in your bank.
  • Some buyers put the courier damage risk on you in their small print. Our label is insured at our expense, both ways.
  • Return fees for declining a revised offer are common in this market. Ours are always free, both ways, whatever inspection finds.
  • Most quotes quietly expire or float with the market. Yours is locked for 14 days.

The longer version, option by option, is in our guide to the best place to sell a MacBook in the UK and our MacBook trade-in comparison.
