What is the MacBook Neo, and is it inside our buy window?
The Neo is Apple's lowest-priced laptop: a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, the A18 Pro chip first used in iPhone, 8GB of unified memory, two USB-C ports and a headphone jack, in blush, indigo, silver or citrus. It went on sale on 11 March 2026, the same day as the M5 MacBook Air.
Our window covers Apple Silicon Macs from the M1 generation onward. The A18 Pro is Apple Silicon too, from the A-series family rather than the M-series, and the Neo runs macOS like every other current Mac, so it sits inside the window. It is the one Mac we buy that is not named after an M chip.
How we quote a Neo without a price table
Every other Mac on this site has an indicative row in our price table. The Neo does not yet, because a published figure has to reflect real resale prices, and a machine this new has too little used history to set one honestly. Rather than guess, we price each Neo on its own details.
Four things decide it. Storage comes first: the 256GB and 512GB models are different machines at resale, and the 512GB version also came with the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID. Condition is next, with the display and the corners of the aluminium case the parts buyers inspect most closely. Then battery health, and finally what comes with it.
Memory is not a variable, because every Neo has 8GB, so there is nothing to look up there. Open About This Mac for the storage figure, or check the keyboard: on standard configurations, a Touch ID key in the top-right corner marks the 512GB build.
Chargers, boxes and what to send
In the UK the Neo was sold without a power adapter in the box; Apple included only the USB-C charging cable. A missing adapter is therefore normal for this model and costs nothing on the quote. Send the cable if you have it, and the box if you kept it.
Before posting, sign out of your Apple Account and turn off Find My so the Neo is not Activation Locked, the one thing we cannot clear from our end. Pack it in a padded box, drop it at any Post Office with the free insured label we email, and payment follows within 24 hours of inspection. The drive is erased to NIST 800-88 standards once it passes.
Selling a Neo to move up
Reasons to sell a machine this new are usually about fit rather than faults. 8GB and a 13-inch screen suit browsing, writing and study, and people who outgrow that tend to move to a MacBook Air or Pro with more memory.
