The last of the original chassis

The M2 closed out a design that ran, almost unchanged, from 2010: the flat 19.7cm square that sat under a monitor on a million desks. The 2024 redesign replaced it with something far smaller, which turned the M2 into the final example of a shape a lot of people still specifically want - it stacks under a display, fits existing shelf mounts and VESA setups, and matches the older Apple desktop kit already on the desk.

That matters commercially, not just sentimentally. Buyers replacing a failed older mini often want the same footprint so nothing else about their setup has to change, and the M2 is the newest machine that fits. It gives the M2 a floor the pure spec sheet does not explain.

What moves the price on an M2 mini

Chip first - M2 or M2 Pro, and the Pro is a substantially different machine with more ports, more cores and more memory bandwidth. Then unified memory, then storage. Memory is soldered, so a 16GB or 24GB build quotes clearly above the 8GB base and always will.

One M2-specific detail is worth declaring: the base 256GB model uses a single storage chip rather than two, which measures slower on disk benchmarks than the 512GB version. Informed buyers know this and price it in, so tell us your storage size and we will quote the machine you actually have rather than assuming the slower configuration.

Condition barely registers on a mini. No screen to crack, no battery to degrade. A scuffed case costs almost nothing, and a mini that will not power on still carries real parts value - describe the fault and the quote is instant, with no photographs to email.

Posting a mini is the easy part

Keep the power lead if you can - it helps slightly - but a bare mini with a sound logic board still sells well. Peripherals stay with you; we buy the computer alone.
