Sell Your MacBook Pro M3 Max

M3 Pro or M3 Max? Only the Max is priced here

Apple sold both chips in the same Space Black or Silver chassis, in both sizes, from the same week in November 2023, and many buyback listings lump them together. They are not the same machine at resale. About This Mac names the chip; if the laptop will not start, the memory figure on your original receipt or Apple order is the tell, because the M3 Pro was sold with 18GB or 36GB while every M3 Max starts at 36GB and climbs to 128GB.

Within the M3 Max there are two chips. The 14-core CPU with a 30-core GPU came with 36GB as standard and 96GB as its one upgrade. The 16-core CPU with a 40-core GPU came with 48GB, 64GB or 128GB. So a 128GB machine is always the 40-core part, and a 96GB machine is always the 30-core one. Both were available in the 14-inch and the 16-inch.

How we quote an M3 Max without a single price row

Most MacBook Pro generations fit one indicative row per size. The M3 Max does not, because a 14-inch with 36GB and a 16-inch with 128GB and 8TB are separated by more than the entire M3 Pro figure, and one number would mislead half the people reading it. So we price each M3 Max on its build. Four things matter: memory first, then screen size, then storage from 1TB to 8TB, then condition.

Memory is the biggest lever because it cannot be added later and because the people buying a used M3 Max, developers running local models, editors cutting 8K and 3D artists, buy for headroom. The 96GB and 128GB tiers are scarce second-hand and are the builds that hold value best two generations on. The 16-inch quotes above the 14-inch at the same spec, and 4TB and 8TB drives add a clear step.

A machine from late 2023 has been through two or three years of charging, so battery cycle count now has a small say, unlike on a newer Max. Check it under System Report and enter it with the memory, core counts and storage from About This Mac; the more exact the description, the tighter the quote.

Two generations behind: sell now or hold?

The M3 Max took its first step down when the M4 Max launched in November 2024 and its second when the M5 Max went on sale on 11 March 2026. Those two drops are behind it. What remains is a slower slide until the next MacBook Pro launch, when it becomes three generations old. If the laptop has been replaced, or it lives in a bag it rarely leaves, the months before that launch are the better window.

There is a floor under high-memory builds that base laptops do not have. A 64GB or 128GB M3 Max still runs models and projects that most current laptops cannot hold, and buyers who want that capability without paying for an M5 Max keep looking for it. That is why an M3 Max sells on its spec and not on its age.

Upgrading regardless? Get the M3 Max quoted first and hold the figure. It is locked for 14 days, long enough to set up the new machine, move your projects and only then post the old one with the free insured label.

Broken or worn M3 Max: still a serious quote

A cracked Liquid Retina XDR display, a spill across the keyboard, a MagSafe port that no longer charges or a board that will not power on: all of them get a fixed quote from your description, with no photos to send.
