Two-port or four-port: the M1 iMac came in two versions
Apple sold the M1 iMac in two builds from May 2021. The entry model has a 7-core GPU, two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports and came in four colours. The step-up model has an 8-core GPU, two extra USB-C ports, Gigabit Ethernet built into the power adapter, and all seven colours. Look at the back: two ports or four tells you which one you have.
The four-port version quotes a little higher, because the extra GPU core and ports matter to buyers setting up a family or office desk. Memory matters more than either: 8GB was standard and 16GB was a build-to-order option, and a 16GB M1 iMac is the version used buyers now look for. Storage runs from 256GB to 2TB, with 512GB and above carrying a premium.
Yellow, orange and purple turn up less often on the used market than blue or silver, but rarity of shade does not raise our figure. We price on chip, memory, storage and condition only.
Why a 2021 iMac still sells, and when it stops
The M1 iMac is five years old, yet it runs current macOS, drives a 4.5K Retina display that still looks sharp beside newer screens, and uses very little power. For a kitchen desk, a homework station or a small reception, that is all anyone needs, which is why there is still a steady market for it.
The limit is memory and time. 8GB machines feel tight on heavier work, and every macOS release brings the M1 generation closer to the end of its support window. It will not be worth more next year than it is today, so if it has been replaced by a laptop or a newer iMac, selling now captures the better end of its remaining value.
Older Intel iMacs, including the 21.5-inch and 27-inch models, sit outside our window. They still have a used market, but not with us; the M1 is where our iMac range begins.
Courier collection and the display
An iMac is mostly glass, so we never ask you to carry one to a Post Office. Once you accept the quote, we book a free insured courier to collect from your door on a day you choose, and the insurance covers the full quoted value on the way to us. Screen condition is the part of an iMac inspection that moves the figure most, because the display is the product. Tell us about any marks, pressure spots or cracks up front and you get a fixed quote that reflects them, rather than a revision after it arrives. The keyboard and mouse are optional; we buy the iMac on its own.
Before collection, sign out of iCloud and Find My so the machine is not Activation Locked. Payment goes by bank transfer within 24 hours of the iMac passing inspection, and the drive is erased to NIST 800-88 standards afterwards.

Does the two-port or four-port model matter?
A little. The four-port model has an 8-core GPU, two extra USB-C ports and Ethernet in the power adapter, so it quotes slightly higher than the 7-core two-port version. Memory and storage move the figure more, so list those exactly from About This Mac.
Do you buy Intel iMacs as well?

Everything we check before quoting an iMac M1
